Treatment Techniques

Fungal Nails (Onychomycosis) is one of the most persistent difficult conditions to eradicate. Therefore, we have invested approximately a quarter of a million dollars into acquiring the most advanced state of the art laser technology to combat this condition.

Advancing technology now provides individuals with another option to treat your embarrassing nail fungus. The experienced podiatrists at the Adelaide Fungal Nail Laser Clinic use the latest laser technology to treat fungal nail infections.

Nail Fungus Treatment Options

Ignore

Adelaide Nail Fungus

Many people ignore the problem as they do not cause any pain in the mild stages.

However, if left untreated, the fungus will migrate from the tip of nail towards the root. The nail may become more discoloured, ingrowing and thicker, resulting in pain. Also, it may spread to other toes and to the other foot.

Over the Counter Nail Paints

Adelaide Nail Anti Fungals

There are plenty of over-the-counter topical antifungals on chemist shelves.

They are a convenient, lower cost option, most of which promise more than they deliver. Sadly, if you have used them, they have a very low success rate as they do not penetrate the nail effectively to treat the fungus. We will be able to give you options that can be used. We stock attractive nail polish which aren’t available at chemists.

Oral Medications

Adelaide Nail Fungal Oral Medicatoin

Oral medications which treat the nails systemically have a decent success rate and require a course of 3 or 6 months.

However they are not right for everyone, due to cost, serious side effects to the liver and kidneys, or personal aversion to pills. The fact blood tests are required every 4 to 6 weeks to see if the liver is coping is indicative of the harm it causes.

Surgery

Adelaide Nail Fungal Surgery
A medical professional (GP or podiatrist) may surgically remove the affected part of the nail.
However, the toenail fungus usually inhabits the nail bed. Therefore, unless the entire nail is removed, the infection usually returns. In chronic and severe cases which are painful, the entire nail can be removed and killed. This leaves just the skin which is not aesthetically nice to look at.

Laser Treatment

Laser treatment for fungal nails works by combining stimulation of the blood vessels supplying the nails, thus providing increased blood flow to the new growing nail plate and heat to kill the fungal organism as well. This leads to a healthier regrowth of the nail.

The laser industry is moving very fast. There are lasers which have been around for 5-10 years and there are the most modern lasers which have the greatest likelihood of eradicating your nail fungus. We utilise the only Class 4 Laser on the market approved for the treatment of nail fungus. The majority on the market are either Class 1 or Class 2.

Types of Lasers

After much research we found two types of lasers stood out. Rather than just purchase one type, we wanted the best possible outcomes for our patients and purchased both.We have the Class-2 Lunula Cold Laser and the Class-4 K-Laser. We found independently one laser did not get the results we wanted. We found clients got the clear healthy nails they wanted by using both machines simultaneously in the appointments.

Class-2 and Class-4 K-Laser

At Adelaide Fungal Nail Laser Clinic we use the Class-2 Erchonia® Lunula Laser® and the Class-4 K-Laser which are breakthrough lasers bringing new hope to people suffering from stubborn onychomycosis. Combining a Class-2 and a Class-4 Laser it enables us to use a total of 6 independent wavelengths at every appointment and range between low and high level power.

What Makes Us Different

One of the major differences separating us from other clinics who have just the Lunula Laser is that the podiatrist will see you and your nails every visit rather than an unqualified receptionist or beauty therapist putting you on the machine. This also enables you to be able to claim on health insurance or Medicare if your doctor has provided you with a referral.
