FUNGAL NAILS
Onychomycosis Treatments
Onychomycosis, commonly known as Fungal Nails, is notoriously difficult to treat and eliminate completely. To address this, we have committed a substantial investment—close to a quarter of a million dollars—into acquiring industry-leading laser technology for effective treatment.
With advancements in technology, individuals now have a new option to combat stubborn nail fungus. At Adelaide Fungal Nail Laser Clinic, our experienced podiatrists utilise the latest laser technology to effectively treat fungal nail infections.
Nail Fungus Treatment Options
Ignore

Untreated fungal infections can advance from the tip to the root of the nail, leading to thickened, discoloured, and ingrown nails that cause pain. The infection may also spread to other toes and even the opposite foot.
Over the Counter Nail Paints

While they offer a convenient and cost-effective option, most over-the-counter antifungals tend to overpromise and underdeliver. Unfortunately, their success rate is low as they fail to penetrate the nail effectively. We can provide alternative treatment options, including specialised nail polishes not available in chemists.
Oral Medications

While oral antifungals can be effective, they may not be the right choice for everyone due to their cost, possible liver and kidney side effects, or reluctance to take medication. The need for blood tests every 4 to 6 weeks to assess liver function indicates their potential risks.
Surgery

However, toenail fungus typically resides in the nail bed, meaning that unless the entire nail is removed, the infection often returns. In severe and painful chronic cases, complete nail removal may be necessary, but this leaves only the skin, which may not be visually appealing.
Laser Treatment
Laser treatment for fungal nails works by stimulating blood vessels that supply the nail, increasing circulation to the new nail plate while using heat to eliminate the fungal infection. This promotes healthier nail regrowth.
The laser industry is advancing rapidly. While some lasers have been in use for 5–10 years, the latest technology offers the highest chance of eliminating nail fungus. We use the only Class 4 Laser on the market approved for fungal nail treatment, whereas most available lasers are Class 1 or Class 2.
Types of Lasers
Our research led us to two highly effective laser options. Rather than settling for one, we acquired both—the Class-2 Lunula Cold Laser and the Class-4 K-Laser—to offer superior treatment. We discovered that using just one laser didn’t deliver the desired results, but combining both during appointments significantly improved nail health.
Class-2 and Class-4 K-Laser
We use the Class-2 Erchonia® Lunula Laser® and the Class-4 K-Laser at Adelaide Fungal Nail Laser Clinic—advanced laser technologies that offer new possibilities for treating stubborn onychomycosis. By integrating both lasers, we apply six independent wavelengths during each session, allowing us to vary power levels between low and high for better treatment effectiveness.
Our Unique Approach
Unlike clinics that solely offer the Lunula Laser, our patients are always seen by a qualified podiatrist at each visit—not a receptionist or beauty therapist. This ensures expert care and also allows you to claim on health insurance or Medicare if you have a doctor’s referral. We proudly service Adelaide serving patients from Walkerville, Unley, Prospect, St Peters, Brompton, Norwood, Thebarton, Mile End, Parkside, Glenside, Fullarton, Frewville, Myrtle Bank, Highgate, Glenunga and beyond.
