FUNGAL NAILS
Onychomycosis Treatments
Treating Fungal Nails (Onychomycosis) can be incredibly difficult, making it one of the most persistent conditions to manage. That’s why we’ve invested heavily—approximately a quarter of a million dollars—in state-of-the-art laser technology to provide the best possible solution.
Modern technology offers individuals an innovative way to treat persistent nail fungus. At Adelaide Fungal Nail Laser Clinic, our expert podiatrists employ the most advanced laser treatments to combat fungal nail infections.
Nail Fungus Treatment Options
Ignore

Untreated fungal infections can advance from the tip to the root of the nail, leading to thickened, discoloured, and ingrown nails that cause pain. The infection may also spread to other toes and even the opposite foot.
Over the Counter Nail Paints

Though over-the-counter antifungals are an accessible and budget-friendly option, they rarely provide lasting results. Their limited ability to penetrate the nail means they have a low success rate. We can suggest better alternatives and stock specialised nail polishes unavailable in chemists.
Oral Medications

While oral antifungals can be effective, they may not be the right choice for everyone due to their cost, possible liver and kidney side effects, or reluctance to take medication. The need for blood tests every 4 to 6 weeks to assess liver function indicates their potential risks.
Surgery

Because the fungus primarily lives in the nail bed, removing part of the nail often doesn’t stop the infection from returning. In severe, painful cases, total nail removal is an option, though it results in exposed skin, which may not be aesthetically pleasing.
Laser Treatment
By enhancing blood flow to the nail through vessel stimulation and applying heat to destroy the fungal infection, laser treatment encourages the growth of a healthier nail.
Laser technology is evolving quickly, with older models in use for 5–10 years and newer, more effective lasers offering better fungal eradication. We utilise the only Class 4 Laser approved for treating nail fungus, while most others on the market are Class 1 or Class 2.
Types of Lasers
After extensive research, we identified two standout laser types. Instead of choosing just one, we invested in both to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. We use the Class-2 Lunula Cold Laser and the Class-4 K-Laser. Individually, neither provided the results we desired, but by combining both during appointments, we achieved the clear, healthy nails our clients wanted.
Class-2 and Class-4 K-Laser
We use the Class-2 Erchonia® Lunula Laser® and the Class-4 K-Laser at Adelaide Fungal Nail Laser Clinic—advanced laser technologies that offer new possibilities for treating stubborn onychomycosis. By integrating both lasers, we apply six independent wavelengths during each session, allowing us to vary power levels between low and high for better treatment effectiveness.
How We Stand Out
Unlike clinics that solely offer the Lunula Laser, our patients are always seen by a qualified podiatrist at each visit—not a receptionist or beauty therapist. This ensures expert care and also allows you to claim on health insurance or Medicare if you have a doctor’s referral. We proudly service Adelaide serving patients from Walkerville, Unley, Prospect, St Peters, Brompton, Norwood, Thebarton, Mile End, Parkside, Glenside, Fullarton, Frewville, Myrtle Bank, Highgate, Glenunga and beyond.
